Merbau, otherwise known as kwila, is a popular timber choice for decking, outdoor furniture, barbeque trolleys, joinery and more. It’s an Asian rainforest hardwood with an abundance of natural oil, making it ideal for outdoor applications.
As with most natural timber products, colour variation within the merbau timber species is normal and one of its most appealing characteristics. Typically a dark reddish-brown in colour, occasionally a yellowish-brown, merbau decking has a noticeable grain appearance and is sure to enhance any outdoor living area.
Renowned for high strength and remarkable durability, the average life expectancy of merbau decking with proper above-ground installation and regular maintenance is 25-50 years.
Classed as a fire retardant species, merbau is naturally resistant to termite attack and decay.
